Substantive Editing
A substantive edit can come in many forms. I can read for a specific substantive issue or provide feedback on a range of big picture issues such as character, plot, structure, and more. Some clients like to receive a marked-up manuscript. Some prefer to receive a report on my findings, while others would rather talk it out via a phone or video call.
Please contact me so we can discuss your specific needs and figure out what kind of feedback will work best for you and your project.
Copyediting
A copyedit usually occurs when a project is nearing completion and substantive issues have been resolved. A copyedit is a meticulous read for style, technical errors, and internal continuity. A heavier copyedit may also include revising sentences to improve flow and rearranging sentences and paragraphs where necessary. During this stage, your manuscript may also be styled in preparation for typesetting.
Please contact me to discuss your manuscript's needs.
Proofreading
Proofreading is done in the last stage when the project has already been copyedited. If your manuscript has not yet been typeset, a proofread can mean a final, last-check reading of copy for any technical errors that may have been missed in earlier stages. If your manuscript has been typeset, a proofread can serve to check that all copy was set correct.
